I never expected to become a painter.
I enjoyed art in high school, but after graduation, life took me in other directions. For more than 30 years, creativity remained a quiet memory—until life changed in ways I never could have imagined.
In 2017, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Two years later, while still recovering, I faced an even more aggressive diagnosis: acute myeloid leukemia. In 2020, I underwent a bone marrow transplant and began a long and uncertain journey toward healing.
During those years, I wrestled with fear, anxiety, and the unknown. In the stillness of those difficult days, I turned to God for strength and peace. Somewhere along that journey, He gently rekindled a creative spark I thought I had lost.
Creating art became a source of calm, purpose, and comfort when I needed it most. Eventually, I was drawn to acrylic painting, and it felt like coming home.
I began painting in 2023, creating vibrant acrylic works inspired by landscapes, sea life, nature, and pop culture. I love bold color and contrast, and I especially enjoy capturing the beauty, wonder, and joy I see around me.
I am grateful to have survived those difficult years, but the effects of what I have experienced have not simply disappeared. The physical and emotional effects of illness, along with lingering anxiety, are still part of my journey.
When anxiety comes, I often turn to my art. Painting helps calm my mind, gives me something positive to focus on, and brings me a sense of peace.
Every piece I create carries a little of that journey: gratitude for healing, joy in being able to create, and above all, thankfulness to God for His grace and for giving me a second chance at life.
My hope is that my art reflects that grace and brings a little light, comfort, and joy to others—just as creating it continues to do for me.
